I received quite the shock today.
My entire team was laid off at 4:30 this afternoon without my advance knowledge and I barely had time to tell them goodbye and wish them well.
Due to a sore throat, I’d been working at home for the past two weeks and was to return to the office on Monday. But now that’s all changed. I’ll continue to work from home until further notice, as we all social distance to protect each other from COVID-19. Most of the company has been either laid off or told to work from home, with only a very small core of people remaining at the office.
The next little while will be very interesting, to say the least. My team had a number of projects on the go, most of which will need to be put on hold for now. I’ll be wearing a number of different hats, but my ability to do so is the reason why I was chosen to man the department during the lockdown period.
I feel guilty that I’m the only one on my team who gets to keep her paycheque, and I’m hoping that this situation will only last for a few weeks.
